Wizkid needs no introduction especially as his rise to fame story has been told severally to inspire young growing acts and even the older ones. Wizkid’s growth was somewhat witnessed by every industry player who have been active in the last 8-10 years and his growth can be termed magical!

Shortly after releasing the video to “Holla at your boi” in 2010 – a single/video that shot up Wizkid and even Patrick Elis the director, Wizkid became the new golden boy in the industry at a time when we had no young act performing except for Shanko Rasheed who could only appeal to a certain class of persons. He proved his skills by releasing follow up singles that topped charts within a short time making him climb the list of shows headliners.

His energy, looks and talent made him a cynosure to every music lover and his influence grew exponentially same with the money pegged on his head.

In his growth, Wizzy as he now fondly called crossed the border onto the international scene and continued his exploits there. Nigeria music has always been appreciated globally through the likes of Fela, 2Baba, DBanj but never has the appreciation being this close. Wizzy clinched his very first Number 1 billboard on a song he got featured on by one of the top rappers in US – Drake; he also was the second most streamed artiste on Spotify according to the information released. He has performed alongside Chris Brown on different stages with the Chris Brown concert being the latest.

Arguments relating to Wizkid has resulted in enmity amongst social media users and music lovers. One of such recent arguments was the comparism of Wizkid to 2Baba and Dbanj in terms of global recognition and in my own opinion without disrespecting the older two, I think Wizzy has been able to surpass them both although you can say the foundation was created by the later.

In all of these accomplishments, one might want to know what is actually working for Wizkid and without being farther from the truth – Talent + Hardwork seems to be the only logical explanation to his feats. Individuals close to Wizkid attest to the fact that he is always recording and trying out new sounds on a regular basis whenever and wherever he has the opportunity.

I am not a big fan of Wizzy most especially with his attitude issues but then one has to appreciate the great accomplishments of a 25 year-old young man putting Nigeria Music on a global scene.
