In the midst of the blitz of new cats like Joe Boy, Fire Boy DML, T-Classic and the rest of the new crop of Afrobeat contenders who have taken over the airwaves, DMW signee and self- acclaimed Mayor of Lagos, Mayorkun, managed to deliver a rousing street anthem that quickly gained traction.

Without warning, every woke, socially in tune person now had some sort of social classification or as Mayorkun puts it, a ‘Geng.’

Fast forward two months and thousands of streams later; Mayorkun delivers an amazing music video to match the hit single.

The Danny Twitch directed Music Video which dropped on Wednesday featured a range of quirky, alte-based characters, compete with hyper-colourful visuals and a lot of 21st century street hand signs.

Mayorkun himself, in one of the scenes is clad in pink fur, lying in what looks like an empty bath tub in the middle of a street with an excited collective of his ‘Geng’ in tow.

They are all packed inside a bright red car as it slowly makes its way across an empty street.

The track ‘Geng’ repeatedly mentions the line,

‘Chilling with the most high’, a term with no obvious religious reference but a rather sinister one.

So it made sense that there were some scenes with copious amounts of smoke from lit blunts. Like the scene in which Mayorkun opens the video fearlessly trailing smoke.

There are a few cameo appearances like the one from viral Instagram comedian, Sydney Talker and a cleverly-orchestrated one with a picture of DMW boss, Davido.

For a hyper-energetic dance track like ‘Geng’, the music video should have featured more choreographed dance sequences to make for more memorable scenes.

This is not to say that the visuals delivered by Danny Twitch didn’t live up to expectation. On the contrary, Mayorkun may have unconsciously garnered a new collective of listeners from the other side of his fan base, but a mega, street-hop hit track like ‘Geng’ deserved just a little more oomph.
