A lady who works in a library is having a normal working day: helping people find the books they are looking for, checking in library cards, processing records, organizing files and so on. Then she receives a telephone message from a friend who is visiting Nigeria.

It is a short text message, not more than 100 characters, yet it feels like a very intimate contact -an affectionate touch or a warm hug. She is moved to send a response. The reply is even shorter than the message she had received, and it is in a personal or intimate style. The two friends, for a moment though a world apart, feel intensely present to each other.

The truth is this, we don’t just use or admire technology: we live with it. Whether we seem indifferent or get charmed by it, technology is deeply embedded in our ordinary everyday experience.

We’re privileged to be living in a time where tech can assist us and make our lives easier and furthermore rethink the ways we go about our daily activities. The technology we’re already accustomed or exposed to has paved the way for us to innovate further and there is no denying that the future of technology will continue to revolutionize our lives.

Here’s a list of technologies that will “probably” change our lives forever over the next decade and even beyond

5G Connectivity

We all know 5G is quickly becoming a reality and could even offer faster than wired speed in downloads when connected. You will agree with me that fast speed in connection without overcrowding will create loads and wealth of possibilities for connected devices – “everything”, from appliances in our homes to cars and gadgets that we’re yet to even invent.

Fridges that order for you

I quite agree that 3D printed food may seem unrealistic, but how about a refrigerator that senses when you’re running low on something and orders it for you? This sounds amazing. But the truth is that this tech already exists and is getting better every year. I believe it will eventually be so common in every home and we’ll never need to pop out to the groceries stores again.

Artificial Intelligence

Let us be clear, AI is all around us. It’s in robots, computers, machines and even in our smartphones. Alexa, Google-Assistant, Siri and other voice assistant prove how far AI has already come, but could eventually find its way into been servants of robots. Let’s hope they don’t take over the world.

Flying Cars

I don’t think it is unreasonable to think we might take to the skies, when there’s no space left on the roads and bridges. Well, there are already plenty of flying car designs that shows this future is a realistic possibility.

Just to mention a few, the list is endless. I personally think future technology is sure to transform our lives in unbelievable ways. I see the stars. Do you???
