It’s still the seasons of the arts here in Lagos, from art fairs to music awards, the celebration of African art hasn’t stopped. Another edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has rolled up in Lagos for its 7th edition, making Nigeria its four-time host. In the last few days, the nominees from all over Africa have arrived in Lagos and the vibe in Lagos has skyrocketed. As the award show comes up in a few hours, we’d like to make some fun predictions on how the night would go for our Nigerian Artistes

Best Male Artiste in Western Africa

I thought this would be a tough decision till i saw Essence at the bottom of this list. Based on my person opinion, i strongly predict Wizkid would win in this category.

Best Female Artists Western Africa

Hmmmm, I can’t lie this is a bit tougher than it should be and I’m trying to be as unbiased as possible. However, I do believe Tiwa Savage would win because the absolute best there is in the whole of Africa duh?! On the other hand, Yemi Alade is also pretty big in the continent. Definitely between Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage.

African Fan’s Favorite

Album Of The Year

Ah now THIS is a tough one. This is a very very tough one because all the Nigerian albums there go hard. Contrary to popular opinion which pits A Better Time against Made in Lagos alone, I believe Celia is equally a strong contender. Tiwa’s Celia was such a good album, a solid 8.5/10. Who do i think would win? if it’s not any of the other African nominees I believe Made in Lagos has the highest chance.

Best African Collaboration

Man these categories only get tougher, don’t they? I think it’s going to come down to Ke Star Remix and Yaba Buluku remix, those two songs were (are) everywhere and still go hard. Oh, I just noticed Essence at the bottom, case closed lol.

Best African DJ

Respectfully, I don’t think Nigeria stands a chance.

Best African Duo, Group or Band

You dey whine me? Cavemen of course.

Best African Rapper or Lyricist

Tough but I don’t think Nigeria stands a chance.

Best African Video

Dammy Twitch, Dir. K and Unlimited LA on those videos to be fair. Although a little tough, I think Dir. K could and should win.

Songwriter of The Year

I love you Tiwa but I’m not sure you stand a chance

Song of The Year

If it’s not essence, we riot. That song did not have all the radio stations in a chokehold just to not win this.

Producer of the Year

Just gonna be full on biased and say P Prime. Hard chance but I believe in him.

Most Promising Artiste

Ayra Starr sure deserves it.

Breakout Artiste of the Year

Maybe Tems.

Best Male Artiste in African Inspirational Music

Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African R&B Soul

Wizkid & Tems 😔

Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Pop

Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Jazz

I believe Made Kuti

Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Hip Hop

Kind of surprised there aren’t more Nigerian artistes here but I definitely believe Blaqbonez has a shot.

Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Dance or Choreography

Yemi Alade

Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African

This is tough wow, I’m just going to go with Naira Marley.

What do you think about my predictions? I’m excited to see how (in)accurate my predictions are. What Nigerian artistes do you think deserve these awards? Let me know!
