I know there’s literally a shit ton of new music this weekend, but there’s one particular track that really got me feeling some type of way. Mavin’s latest single Overdose is an all-star track made up of the label’s new-gen signees. The three-minute song features Don Jazzy, Crayon, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Magixx, and Boy Spyce.

In commemoration of the label’s tenth anniversary, Don Jazzy revealed earlier this month that a full-on Mavin album is on the way. A single off the project, Overdose, was released yesterday, Friday, May 13, 2022.

It seems like just yesterday Mavin released its first all-star track. In 2014, Mavin’s Dorobucci took Nigeria by storm and became a defining moment in Nigeria’s pop culture history. The track featured Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, D’Prince, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Di’ja.

Don Jazzy has always been known to have a knack for identifying and grooming talents in the music industry, but it’s surreal watching his special eye for talent transcend generations. Today, most of the members of the 2014 Mavin set are on to bigger things in the music industry and the Mavin label is still moving strong in the game.

In the last three years, Don Jazzy has handpicked a new list – that grows by the month – of talented young artistes that are taking the entire continent by storm. Mavin’s scouting and onboarding program and strategy are definitely one for the books.

The performance video of Overdose made me feel like a proud mom for some reason. It felt good watching Don Jazzy usher in a new set of Mavin signees. The video concept followed a party scene, with Don Jazzy seated in the corner (as per he’s the owner of the party lmao) and Crayon opens the song with a catchy, serenading opening verse and hook. We then see other Mavin artistes having a good time with themselves and friends all around. Everyone seems to be having a good time, with the feel-good track playing.

It was all so wholesome having their newest signee, Boy Spyce, take on the last verse, a truly heartwarming project overall.
