Christmas comes with its own unique eccentricities, made-up bed time stories, an official colour code and a compulsive desire to eat and drink in excess.
That’s fine, as long as the core narrative around the festivity is majorly geared towards children.
But there are a few overly expressive adult individuals who are obsessed with the ambience of the Christmas season as much as the kids are and make a point of showing it in how they approach the day.
We put together a list on how to spot people displaying extraordinary Christmas excitement, even though they try desperately to hide it from everyone.
THEY TALK NON-STOP ABOUT THE DAY
Do you have a friend who makes off the cuff remarks about the harmattan/Christmas season smell? Something about the distinct smell of the season helping them know that the day is near (like their calendars are not working).
That’s one of the signs that show that they are definitely obsessed about the season, but try to express it in a mature, indifferent fashion.
THEY LOOK AROUND FOR CHRISTMAS DISCOUNT SALES
They scour the internet for random items on Christmas sale and screenshot them for later mass shopping.
They know by sixth sense that the price of rice and tomatoes will automatically skyrocket a few days before the day and in anticipation ‘smart shop’ around the troublesome items.
If you know anyone who is like that, then you have an obsessed ‘Christmasholic’ on your hands.
THEY PLAY CHRISTMAS CAROL SONGS ALL DAY
They have a sentimental, nostalgic attachment to Christmas carol songs and play it on repeat.
And the surprisingly part about it is that they know the lyrics of all the Christmas songs by heart.
This is the point where I have to warn you that it can be highly frustrating to co-inhabit a space with ‘them,’ as your eardrums will know no rest.
Some even do acapella runs if the track of their choice is not available and this can add to your frustration while adding to their excitement.
THEY LOOK AROUND FOR THE NEAREST FATHER-CHRISTMAS SHOWING
If there was a GPS app specifically to trace where Santa Claus (Father Christmas in this case) will be making an appearance, these next set of Christmas addicts will be on it all December.
They always banter about how last year’s FatherChristmas at the local school didn’t deliver a good performance and how the one at the Ikeja mall was a better representation of the Christmas spirit.
Their area of interest is in how the FatherChristmas act is delivered flawlessly and they are obsessed about everything about it from the clothing to the presents.
That’s it guys, a comprehensive list on how to spot a Christmas obsessed individual and good luck to you, because you will need a lot of patience to manage them.
