Although it’s been raining almost every day on this side of the world, making us long to stay in bed, it’s summertime around the world and you can’t scroll for two seconds on Instagram without seeing someone’s vacation posts or sponsored posts by travel agencies for summer trip packages. I saw the post below recently and I could relate.

So if you’re one of the lucky people who have a summer trip planned, you’re truly in luck because this very important blog post is for you. Popular social media influencer Oluwaseyi Classic recently posted a video from his vacation trip to Dubai, stating that although he wants to live in Dubai, the current summer weather there is really hot! If your plans involve travelling to Dubai, Egypt, or anywhere where the temperature is higher than 30 degrees, you certainly need to pack cool clothes.

A group of Japanese experts, led by researcher Toshiaki Ichinose of the National Institute for Environmental Studies, were interested in the importance of picking the colour of a garment during periods of excessive heat in a study published in August 2020 but which is still applicable today. She did a study to see which colours keep the body cool in the summer heat, and the results may surprise you.

For the study, Toshiaki Ichinose exposed to the sun nine torsos of mannequins topped with polo shirts of different colours, ranging from red to light green, yellow, blue, black, white, or dark green. An important note: the outside temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). After only five minutes of exposure, the scientist examined the surface temperature of the fabrics and discovered a 20°C difference between the coolest and warmest polo shirt, demonstrating the importance of selecting your wardrobe wisely during a hot summer.

Thankfully, fashion influencer Francis Ebella‘s curated Instagram page is a playbook of ideas for how to dress up for the different seasons. His summer looks are enviable and you’ll surely get inspired to create similar cool yet attractive looks.

Here are some of the cool colour clothing from the result of the study worn by Francis:

Red and White

White is an obvious cool colour. Red is usually considered a warm colour, but from the study, red is one of the colours that keeps the body cool.

Yellow is another colour that keeps the body cool. It seems like Francis got the memo because this all-yellow outfit will surely keep him cool.

This full-on lilac look is super cool. I love how laid-back but bright and colourful it looks.
