On the 7th of December, the 58th Grammy ceremony officially released their annual nomination list in preparation for their February celebration.
Most of us already had the list drawn up in our heads with predictable nominees and ‘Grammy Favorites’, so we could only nod in agreement at the line up and names on the list. One thing that stood out was the absence of one of the biggest RNB singles of 2015; ‘Post To be’ Omarion ft. Jhene Aiko and Chris Brown. It has been over 2 weeks and nobody has been able to come up with a logical explanation, it definitely made the time span cut and this single contained some defining lyrics for the genre, ‘EAT THE BOOTY LIKE GROCERIES’ (Jhene Aiko) which caused a world wide Internet and music frenzy.
Another noticeable factor with this year’s nominee list is the breath of fresh acts; Kehlani, Travis Greene and the likes being first time nominees, it is looking like a ground breaking year for the Grammys come 2016.
At Tush Magazine we have decided to compile a list of the top break out artistes for 2015.
Enjoy and share your thoughts.
- TY Dolla $ign
When asked about his artistry he said, “I’m a singer, I’m not a rapper, I just happen to have bars.” TY has been in this industry since early 2007, but 2015 was his break out year, with his long awaited body of work, ‘FREE TC’ – his debut album and numerous features on substantial singles that defined the music industry in 2015.
- DEJ LOAF
In my opinion she is by far the people’s favorite for the year 2015; her lyrics are delivered in a pristine sexually motivated tones, not hiding the dreams and ambitions of a hustler in her outline – if that makes any sense.
Deja Trimble (born April 8, 1991), better known by her stage name Dej Loaf (stylized as DeJ Loaf), is an American rapper and singer from Detroit, Michigan. She began her music career in 2011, and released her debut mix-tape Just Do It in 2012. In October 2014, she released her second mix-tape, Sell Sole.
DeJ Loaf rose to greater popularity in 2014 with her single “Try Me” which initially attained viral internet popularity and has peaked at number 45 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song was certified Gold on April 3, 2015 in the US.
She was chosen as part of the XXL Magazine 2015 Freshman Class.
- TORY LANEZ
Young kid on the come up!
He came into the game with no apologies and is threading ever so lightly, churning out delicious singles here and there.
Daystar Paterson (born July 27, 1992), better known by his stage name Tory Lanez, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, director, and fashion designer from Toronto, Ontario. Peterson founded the One Umbrella imprint with his brothers in Toronto. He received major recognition from his mix-tapes, Conflicts of My Soul: The 416 Story (2013) and Lost Cause (2014). In 2015, he released a collaboration EP, Cruel Intentions with WeDidIt Records. His debut album is set to be released in 2016.
- BRYSON TILLER
I remember early last year, I was telling my friends about this new kid, he used to put out cover versions to Drake’s songs and nobody cared, they all thought he was just one of those SoundCloud stars but his vibe was different, I always knew.
In 2015 this Derby kid raised boy with this most beautiful daughter went in, he put out a tape named after his genre. ‘TRAPSOUL’ one of my favorite works this year and now everyone wants a piece of GwadTilla his music is his and it is fantastic!
I am excited for 2016, his artistry is one I’m looking forward to.
Tiller started receiving massive internet attention from music industry insiders with his breakout single “Don’t” which he originally released on his SoundCloud page, having accumulated over 35 million streams. Early co-signs from super producer Timbaland and Canadian rapper/singer Drake led to multiple major label deals for Bryson, with him eventually choosing to sign a creative partnership with RCA Records on August 25, 2015. On October 2, 2015, he released his debut studio album TRAPSOUL, which debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200.
