Summer is almost here, and that means travel season is nearly here. People have been travelling since March, but a lot more people will start in June because most people like to travel during summer. Soon we’ll start seeing hashtags on our timelines like “summer body,” “summer vacation,” “bikini body,” and other hashtags associated with travelling.

The prospect of travelling can be extremely fun and exciting, but it can also be super stressful, especially if you’re one of those people who never know what to pack or always wait till the last minute to pack for a trip. Before I go into the best outfit ideas for travel activities, let me quickly share five things you shouldn’t do when packing for a trip.

5 Packing Don’ts For Travel

  1. Don’t pack last minute.
  2. Don’t overpack.
  3. Don’t store cash, jewellery, medicine or other valuables in your checked bag. Keep them in your carry-on.
  4. Don’t forget to pack a paper copy of all your valuable documents.
  5. Don’t forget to pack travel adapters, toiletries and any other essentials you need for your trip.

Packing the appropriate travel outfits for various activities can be challenging, especially if it’s your first time. Thankfully, Ghanaian travel consultant and planner Cyndy Nuamah of @cycy_travels came to the rescue. She shared 11 travel outfit ideas for different activities on her Instagram page, and I’m bringing it straight to your doorstep, or at least the doorstep of your phone, lol.

Here are 11 outfit ideas for various travel activities:

  • Beach: Ladies can wear any easygoing, brightly coloured one-piece or two-piece bikini (but depending on the country, you may need to cover up more). For men, tank tops and colourful shorts.
  • Botanical gardens: Flowery and bright-coloured clothing look great for botanical garden visits.
  • Architecture and Popular Landmarks: Make a statement with a stunning ensemble! Especially because you’ll likely take pictures for the gram.
  • Hiking: Wear light cotton or nylon tops, t-shirts, and easy pants. If it’s cold, warm jackets with easy pants will do. Wear comfortable sneakers and bring sunglasses, a hat, and a face towel.
  • Safari: Wear naturally-toned fabrics such as shades of khaki, greens, and browns. Summer hats are recommended for protection against the sun. Sneakers for foot protection and ease of movement.
  • Sleep: A cotton pyjama or silk nightdress with a robe to throw on, especially in the mornings.
  • Staycation: You can get a custom outfit made just to suit where you plan to stay or you can get bright-coloured clothes that will look good in photos.
  • Airport: Dress warmly and comfortably. Pants and cool tops are always a good idea. Pullovers and cardigans over pants aren’t bad either. Just avoid complicated dressing and footwear.
  • Resort: Any summer-inspired outfit or swimsuit coverups and fancy hats will do.
  • Religious places: Wear decent outfits, and a good pro-tip would be to cover your hair.
  •  City tour: Wear comfortable clothes like jeans, t-shirts, tank tops, cotton blouses, and easy footwear like sandals or open shoes. Ladies, never wear heels!
