After its introduction of the verification mark in late 2009, Twitter has successfully solved the impersonation problem which had hindered a lot of personalities owning a Twitter Account for fear of being impersonated.
When it launched, a few top celebrities were automatically verified based on their status and when it moved to Nigeria, it was a way of differentiating worth even within the celebrity circle – little wonder once a celebrity gets verified, it is being celebrated as some sort of achievement.
Despite it 10 year of existence and fully opening the verification public, there are still some popular Nigerian artistes who are yet to be acknowledged by the twitter blue mark. Below is a list of some of them:
CYNTHIA MORGAN – Interestingly, Cynthia Morgan was initially verified which actually caused a twitter fight between her and Eva Alordiah’s younger brother. She lost the verification mark after changing her handle from @cynthiamorgan to @icynthiamorgan
ILL BLISS – CEO Goretti Company and a Partner at Capital Hills, Ill Bliss has been in the industry for close to a decade now. He pioneered the Igbo-fused hip-hop which fellow Igbo rappers are currently enjoying. He definitely deserves a verification mark.
VECTOR THA VIPER – Barrack Boy, Vector is a force to reckon within the hip-hop scene. Just like Cynthia Morgan, he was verified but lost his verified account after his label former label seized his account during their feud and changed the name to one of their subsidiaries. Vector opened a new account which is yet to be verified. With a large fan base, Vector also deserves a blue mark.
EVA ALORDIAH – Sexy diva Eva Alordiah was among the first femcees Nigeria ever produced. In late 2009, she came in and gave the male rappers a chase for their money. Although she has been unstable lately postponing an already due album from 2015 to 2016, Eva has kept her social media communities engaged with her writings and if that accounts for something, then she should get a verification mark as well.
TEKNO – Surprisingly, Tekno isn’t verified and it makes me wonder if he is unconcerned about his brand representation. Tekno has been in the limelight for over 5 years now and he has garnered fans globally. Although his Instagram account has the verification icon same can’t be said for his Twitter.
MODENINE – Arguably one of Nigeria’s most underrated rapper of all time, Modenine’s unverified account once again shows how largely this great veteran is being underrated.
TERRY G – Spiritual Ginjah man, Terry G is also among the list of unverified acts Nigeria has. Lately Terry G has undergone some wonderful branding from his usual super-hyper being to a more reserved act save for his display of violence at an event earlier in the year.
MAYORKUN – Although Mayorkun seems fairly new into the industry, his affiliation with one of Africa’s biggest acts – Davido should have given him an edge over other younger acts. A cue from Don Jazzy’s influence saw his children – Reekado Banks, Di’ja and Korede Bello getting verified upon their signing to Mavin Records.
HUMBLESMITHS – He probably doesn’t need it but he surely deserves it. With several singles featuring top acts with the likes of Flavour, Davido, Phyno and Harrysong, Humble Smiths is one act that should have the verified icon on his account.
HARRYSONG – Harrysong aka Mr. Songz is another underrated Nigeria artiste who despite his hardwork and success-inspired journey, he still is yet to be acknowledged.
With the recent policy Twitter has – opening the verification exercise to the public, it is paramount for these acts to take advantage and get verified.
