Spoken Word: Say No To Drugs And Alcohol Abuse

You know, I once had a friend who used to take drugs,

And he would say to me,

I don’t wanna miss out on the pleasure of having more than a measure of satisfaction,

I don’t wanna miss out on the moments of elation that follow the penetration of the needle in my skin,

And every time I try to quit (pause) the pill,

I feel, like I am at my wit’s end.

You see, I knew he was tired of the highs and lows,

And I was particularly tired of the smoke.

And looking back,

My eye would tear,

Because, him I couldn’t stop,

Cocaine, Codeine, Morphine,

The use of this need to drop,

Us the future needs,

But how would we lead,

When we have refused to place the lids on these drugs.

We allow them control the very minds we are supposed to be in control of.

You say you want boldness,

But from these drugs,

You only get coldness,

You get fantasy derived from the ecstasy, you have plunged yourself in,

You see,

You have refused to listen,

Refused to be told,

About drug and its abuse,

But we can change this,

You and I can make a decision,

To stop this menace,

Or like a virus,

It would spread, fast.

One day,

Just like carcasses,

Devoured by vultures,

We would find that the very fabric of our culture, our future,

Is no more,

Do not turn deaf ears,

Say no to drug abuse,

Let’s make the world a better place.
