Indecent dressing : HAVOC IN DISGUISE [Entry 1]

Indecent dressing is a major cause of the various assaults and sexual harassment recorded in the society today especially by the youths. It simply means deliberate exposure of one’s body to the public. Therefore it is a statement of fact that this practice does not conform favorably to the norms and values of the society, particularly the African society – local heritage.

Indecent dressing is just like other social vices such as drug abuse and prostitution just to mention a few. Indecent dressing is rampant among youths, particularly females in the society, all in the name of wanting to look tantalizing, sexy, sensuous, and stimulating, succeed in presenting themselves as an irresponsible citizens. Wearing skimpy clothes – also known as “fitted“, strapless and short blouses and sagging of trousers by boys and even girls, cleavages and sleeveless shirts, also known as “spaghetti or off-shoulder“, are major moral problems associated with decency in dressing obtainable among youths in the society.

Apart from been skimpy, they are again transparent, withal; the clothes reveal certain parts of the body which under normal circumstances ought to be veiled from the glare of people. Ironically these are the renowned modern fashion among youths these days. Youths dress indecently for reasons such as poor parenting, peer pressure, wrong use of the Internet, fading values and as well as demonic influence from celebrities, among others.

The negative sides of indecent dressing are that many of the youths involved mostly become victim of rape, also can be lured into prostitution by peers because of the way they dress. In order to curb indecent dressing in the society, practical initiative must be done to educate the youth populace about the potential consequences associated with it. Also, showing them vividly the importance of appearing responsible in the society so as to be addressed positively; the way we dress can make or mar the way we are addressed. Sequel to this, youths should ensure that they do not get used to values that are unduly antisocial in all their endeavor.

This practice does not conform to the norms and values of the society, particularly the African society, also remember that your appearance is a passport to either positive or negative instinct on your personality which leaves a mark of gold of a first impression that will never seize to exist. Create an amulet of decency; it goes a long way in making your soul healthy.
