Chronciles Of A Nympho [EP9]

  • Yesmin Briggs.

How can he look so good? And more importantly why can’t I stop staring? As if on reflex, he peels his gaze away from mine and carries on with the conversation he is having. As if he just saw a barely familiar face.

David: Ma’am… excuse me Ma’am…

I quickly jolt out of my brief reverie as I turn my attention to David and whatever he is saying.

Me:  Yes please, you were saying, table number?

He notices where my attention was drawn to and smiles weakly. Thank goodness he doesn’t say anything, he gives me the table number and I smile and walk into the room with my photographer in tail. It is a really formal outing, the tables are set with names of companies and media houses representing labeled across. As I spot my media outfit’s name I make my way there and Nic, my photographer helps me pull out a chair. I smile at him as I sit on the table waiting anxiously for what happens next, the speakers crinkle as a very nice looking lady walks over the microphone.

Nice looking lady: Good day everyone, thank you very much for acknowledging our invitation, we are glad to announce the launch of the new footwear with POLO Lagos. We hope you all will be as excited as we are  once you get the portfolios which are being distributed around right now. First, we will have a PowerPoint slide telling you all what this new phase is about. Enjoy.

Ushers come out of nowhere, dressed formally with  branded company shirts, hand-distributing the portfolios. As I get my copy, I begin to breeze through the pages,  Nic as if on cue gets up from his chair and takes quiet shots of the guests and I signal for him, he spots me and comes within earshot.

Me: Good job! Let’s get video coverage too, remember it is an exclusive event, we should get all we can..

I wink at him, as he smiles and carries on with his job.

Absentmindedly, I scan the room one more time like I am not looking for a certain man, I deceive myself. I come up short as I only notice media houses within eyesight. The presentation is quite informative; I reach for my phone as a clip with Adebantu’s face comes on.

He is giving the founder’s speech.

I pause as I look him, he is so magnetic. I scan the room, it is really quiet, and everyone is paying as much attention as I am too. Then the clip ends as the nice looking lady comes out again. She makes a joke that gets everyone laughing, well not me. I didn’t get it.

I shrugged uninterested.

The waiters file out and start serving heavenly smelling finger foods to the tables. My tummy grumbles, reminding me that I haven’t eaten all day. As a plate is laid before me I start to dig in and my phone vibrates. I pick it up and it’s Nini.

“HOW IS IT GOING? ANY DEAD BODIES FLYING?”

I LAUGH OUT loud as I type a quick response.

“THE FOOD IS GOOD, I AM GAINING 5 POUNDS.”

I get a reply almost immediately; I pop a cherry into my mouth from the cocktail.

“DON’T COME HOME IF YOU DON’T GET JUICY DETAILS WITH MR ADEBANTU!”

Time for the CEO’s speech, I turn on my recorder as a dozen photographers race to the front and click! Click! Away, Nic inclusive. I try my best not to look at him, but it is difficult when he is standing at the podium with everyone else in the room’s attention to him. I don’t expect him to come greet me singularly but we made eye contact on my arrival and he blatantly ignored me. This time my phone rings.

Again, it is Nini.

What does this girl need this time?

I ignore it.

She calls again. I make a move to decline it, but I know her, she will just keep calling till I pick.

I get up from the table drawing a truckload of attention to myself in my brightly colored tube skirt. I move out of the room as get on the phone with NINI.

Me: Girl!!! You know this is so wrong right? What do you want and why are you calling me?

She laughs.

Imagine.

I roll my eyes.

Nini: Oh shut up! Have you spoken to him?

Me: Who?

I look around, some waiters are moving into the room and I can still hear Adebantu giving his speech. I thank God my recorder is getting every single syllable and I pray to God Nic is wise enough to be getting a video coverage.

Me: You mean Adebantu?

She scoffs.

What is wrong with this girl?

Nini: No I mean the BEATLES! Of course I mean him!

Me:  Of course not! I don’t want to speak to him, I came here to cover this launch and that’s all I am doing. Thank you. Please can you get your nosy ass off my phone and let me do my job?

She giggles.

NINI: Mingle baby girl, don’t be a rod! Mingle! Bye!

I roll my eyes, as I walk back into the room, quietly. I sit at my table as the room goes up in a thunderous applause. I spot Nic, obviously making a video I take it, Thank Goodness.

We are all handed various pairs of the new footwear, I wonder how they guessed our sizes. Nic comes over.

Nic: set to go?

Me: Yes I am, I just need to use the ladies first.

I need to pee so bad, I make my way to the bathroom, I ask a uniformed guard and he points me to the ladies, as I lock myself in, thankfully no one else is here.

I do a quick one and bring out my phone from my bag.

Me: Dial, “NO GOOD FOR YOU”… I say to Siri.

He picks on the third ring.

My heart stops.

Rex: Hello.

I pause for a minute… I want to hang up but I think better of it, it’s Rex I say.

Me: Hey…

He doesn’t say anything, neither do I. I just sit on the toilet seat, my thong down to my ankles and my butt bare in the toilet. So weird.

Rex: Are you okay?

I roll my eyes, as I exhale. What do I say? What do I say?

Me: I can’t call you otherwise?

He scoffs as if he is exasperated by this phone call.

Rex: I don’t have the time for this Yesmin, I only picked because I thought this was important, if you don’t have anything to say, just say so, I have a busy day ahead.

Venom.

Me: You know what, get lost Rex, and go to hell!

With that I hang up and want to slam the phone against the wall, I remember it’s the new APPLE 6s and fixing it will definitely cost a lot, I throw it in my purse instead.

I make my way out of the bathroom and head outside; Nic is waiting for me by the car. I get in the car without saying a word and drive straight home.

I am pissed.

As I drop Nic off he promises to get the pictures and videos to me in the morning.

I let myself into the house thankful that Nini isn’t home, I am not in the mood to talk right now. I head to my bedroom as I peel off my incredible clingy skirt and settle on the bed, I hate him so darn much, why did I bother calling him. I hate myself for being with him, my mind flashes to all the nasty things I have done with him in the bedroom. That’s why he will never respect me; he has seen me at my most belittled state, on my knees and forearms like a little bitch! I hate him!

Never again!

Never again!

I pick up my phone, this time the tears are full in my eyes.

I look for ‘NO GOOD FOR YOU’

BLOCK HIM ON WHATSAPP

DELETE HIS NUMBER

UNFOLLOW HIM ON IG!

DELETE HIM OFF MY BBM!

I slam the phone on the stand beside the bed and I bury myself under the covers as I cry myself to sleep.

I never cry.

Dammit I never cry!

The distant sound of the doorbell awakens me, I look at the bedside clock, it is 7:56pm. I grudgingly open my eyes, wow, I slept for so long. I take off my camisole, I head to the door, it is probably NINI, SHE ALWAYS FORGETS her keys.

I swing the door open in my bra and sheer black thong.

The sight before me makes my heart stop.

I feel all the blood rush to my head as I scream!
