Can We Start Another Football Season Already?

It’s just half-way to the football season and we can say the season is over already. Do not let my reasoning cloud your judgment. It is as though we are in the World Cup already. As for me, I am thinking about Russia, right now.

We expected tough tests for the reigning champions in European leagues. The way it is going, the top leagues will go into the World Cup with new champions. It is now a popularity contest and the polls are complete.

Manchester City finished the football season on a high note but Pep Guardiola could not match his record of 19 wins. No side could match the excellent records by the English side as they went on to smash the record of consecutive wins previously shared by Chelsea and Manchester United. City could not end the year with a win as they were held by a resilient Crystal palace side in the last day of 2017. The Manchester side has been in great shape both on and off the pitch nicking wins maximum points against fellow rivals Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. The road could be clear if they get to chop points off these teams in the reverse fixtures in 2018. Pep’s signings were magnificent and are getting the job done every match day.

The La LIga produced some remarkable results and kicked off banters between fans of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Real Madrid had a slothful start to the season and it was punishable as Barcelona got proceedings started on a high note beating arch-rivals, Real Madrid 3 goals to nil in December. The result will put further pressure on Zidane -time is ticking and the board wants results. Ronaldo is having the worst start to a regular season in years and Karim Benzema is showing signs of an end of the “BBC” era. Bale has been on the transfer market every day of the 2017 with reports linking him with a move back to England. With all these, Barcelona might have just won the league if they keep up with the momentum in 2018.

Up across Europe, Paris Saint Germaine are doing exploits after massive recruitments of Neymar and Mbappe in the summer of 2017. The two have been the faces of the league and PSG are ready to reclaim the French title. The French outfits have enjoyed moments in the Champions league, also.

In Germany, the sea has been calm for Bayern Munchen since Henckyes came out of retirement to save them from the misery of the Ancelotti regime. The german side will be looking forward to winning consecutive league titles in as many football season.
