Beverly Naya: The Many Beauty Shades Of A Movie Star

The name Beverly Naya has become widely celebrated in the circle of Nollywood fans. It is today, one of the standout names of the new generation stars of the industry. It has become a brand associated with on-screen poise and pomp off the screens. The name commands the sort of cred that assures fans and movie makers of sublime character interpretation ability and unforced elegance.

The bearer of the name, the beautiful Nigerian actress who was born and raised in the UK, has been a darling in the eyes of many African movie lovers since she surfaced on the scene. In 2009, she took the opportunity of appearing in the star-studded movie, Guilty Pleasure, using her fine acting display to introduce herself to the movie-watching audience in Africa. The Daniel Ademinokan and Desmond Elliot produced movie, which featured house-hold names like Ramsey Nouah, Majid Michel, Nse Ikpe Etim, Mercy Johnson, Omoni Oboli, gave Beverly Naya her admission into the movie industry.

In 2010, Beverley Naya put a spurt on and appeared on a big budget Nigerian movie. Even though she had been involved in a number of theatric art projects in the UK prior to her foray into Nollywood, it was the border crossing movie – Home In Exile, that brought her shiny light out from under the cover. The movie that also starred prominent thespians like Desmond Elliot, Uche Jumbo, Francis Duru, Justice Esiri, Chiwetalu Agu, was illuminated by the acting talent of the then, spick and span Beverly Naya. In the movie, she brilliantly played the role of Julie, a Kenyan girl whose boyfriend and his friend brought development to a rural community, against the will of powerful traditional figures. The Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen directed movie, which became a huge success, gave Beverly her big break. Her display in the movie helped her to win the award for Most Promising Talent at the 2010 Best of Nollywood Awards. In addition to that, she won the award for Fast Rising Actress at the 2011 City People Entertainment Awards.

More of Beverley Naya was seen on the screens, as she started to appear more frequently in top Nollywood movies. In 2012, she took a part in the widely watched Nollywood movie, Weekend Getaway. The movie which also featured some of the biggest names in the industry added credit to her growing portfolio. In the same year she starred in Death Waters, her show in the movie confirmed her acting quality and made a bold statement of her willingness to reach the highest places in the industry. She was nominated for the Most Stylish Actress honour in the FABS award in that year, 2012.

Beverley Naya, a Script writing and Film making graduate from Roehampton University in London, continued her stride in Nollywood. She went on to appear on several other high profile Nollywood visuals including Alan Poz , Forgetting June, Up Creek Without a Paddle, Stripped, When Love Happens, Brother’s Keeper, Before 30, Oasis, Make A Move, Tinsel. She was nominated for the award of TV actress of the year at the 2014 ELOY awards, for her role in Tinsel. She appeared recently on perhaps the most talked about movie of the year so far – The Wedding Party. She played the role of an emotionless ex of the main male character, a bad girl, whose ploy of ruining the already threatened but renitent marriage, was foiled by the power of love. Because of her competence and level of professionalism, Beverly Naya is today, an inferable choice of actress for top movie makers in Nigeria.  With her many achievements and high career points, it is only fair to say, she belongs in the upper crust of the movie industry.

Interestingly, her relevance has grown beyond just appearing in movies to becoming an influential socialite. In 2011, she appeared in the video of Follow Me Go by Banky W. She recently shared her opinion on the divisive issues of the whether or not premarital sex is decent and the basis of sexual relationships. On the issue of the basis of sexual relationships, she posted on snapchat; “Dear ladies, a lot of guys will do and say anything to get into your underwear, anything! The best thing you can do for yourself is to never give it up too soon. Let him prove why he is worthy, If not move on.” This post has since generated a lot of discussion.

In an industry that is wild with rumours and gossips, Beverley Naya has been romantically linked with a number of male stars. Among them is Flavour, Uti, Gideon Okeke. Even though there are lots of stories from the rumour mills, Beverly has denied having anything more than friendship to do with any of those linked with her. The case of Flavour is even more interesting because she said they have never met. Even with the pressure, the beautiful movie star appears to hold an unwavering belief that the right man would walk into her life someday.

While she appears comfortable with her love life, Beverley Naya has her focus channeled to future projects. It is expected that she features in more big league movies and hopefully her show would help her claim awards on the biggest stages. Beverly Naya has never hidden her openness to work on international projects, as she looks to grow her brand and increase her audience. She has also hinted at the possibility of making movies out of some of the scripts she has archived. With her training in Script writing and Film Making, it is expected she impresses in her proposed adventure. Beverly Naya has come a long way in the movie industry, from the early days of being watched with unsure expectations, to becoming an assuring leading lady on-screen.
